Taken in Lake Ray Roberts state park near Sanger, TX.

… doesn’t mean you’re not there.

Sometimes I’m driving down the road and I just feel compelled to pull over. I spend the next 15-30 minutes searching … seeking … studying, and then head home with this in my camera.

Taken near Pilot Point, TX.

Caprocks Canyon is an incredible state park. There are dry river beds to follow, lots of small peaks to climb. and every view is breath taking. Despite the fact that I walked away that day with a severely damaged lens that will take over a month to repair, I consider the adventure well worth it.

Sometimes we all need something to hide behind.

The creation of a photograph is often an active process. I push myself harder and harder to try concepts and ideas that might fail entirely for the small chance that they just might succeed. Other times, photography is relaxing therapy. It’s something I do to ensure that I have absolutely nothing else to do. In these times I’m more content to just let each moment flow into the next with only a heightened sense of observation.

This image was taken in one of those later cases. What started out as just another beautiful evening in front of a cloudless sunset turned into something entirely different when I was suddenly struck with the notion to toss a single small stone into the lake in front of me.

This is that result.

I tried to photograph the sunrise last Sunday morning. Thanks to the rain, there was no real sunrise to speak of. Not all was lost though. I got this image and I got to spend some quality time with my new mistress and use her to take this image.

That’s right, after 4 years with my D70, I’ve upgraded to the D300. So far, it’s quite nice.

I’m not a subscriber to the thought process that I have to have the biggest and best equipment the moment it is available. In fact, I think that outstanding photographs can be made with even the most basic equipment. This is the reason I’ve had my D70 for so long. I’d probably still have my D100 if it hadn’t been stolen forcing me to buy the D70 in the first place. But… it was just time.

It was a lot more expensive than I’d thought though. So, in support of this site and its continued operation, please consider puchasing a print. If there’s an image of mine that you’d like that you don’t see there. Let me know and I’ll get it put up.
